I have collected a few gift ideas together for your house plant loving friend or family member all from small businesses within the UK. Whether it’s plants themselves or something to compliment their collection, here are eight house plant gift ideas to help you on your way.
Leaf Supply: A guide to keeping hapy house plants
There are some wonderful house plant books around and this is one of my favourites that I own. It’s got some great tips and advice on over 100 house plants, but also includes ideas for which pots to choose, styling your plants, pet friendly plants and how to choose the right plants for your home. It’s a great read for a house plant fan or a budding house plant owner and you can buy it here through Bookshop, a brilliant site that supports local independent bookshops, you can even search for your local bookshop if you have one in mind.
2. indoor watering can
This beautiful indoor watering can is made from powder-coated steel and comes in either a light stone or charcoal finish with an FSC certified beechwood handle. These are a beautiful and practical indoor watering can with a lovely long thin handle to help your precision when watering your house plant babies (I am that person who sloshes water everywhere!). Stupid Egg are a wonderful small business based in East Sussex that sell beautiful house plants and accessories, click here to visit their website.
3. plant pots with faces
House plants already have lots of personality, but why not give them a bit more with their own little faces! I LOVE plant pots with faces and these two from Rose and Grey are especially cute named ‘Vic and Bob’ (presumably after Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer) which I think is genius! I think shelves full of house plants in pots with faces is probably my dream, they would be like your little friends always pleased to see you! Click here to shop Vic & Bob!
4. house plant prints
These beautiful house plant prints feature four easy to care for house plants including the Monstera Deliciosa, Maranta Leconeura, Pilea Peperomioides and Oxalis Trangularis. Hand drawn and painted in watercolour by me they are each available as A4 prints or as set of A6 small greetings cards, these could also be framed and double up as mini prints. Born from my love of watercolour and house plants, these are a perfect gift for any house plant lover! Click here to shop the range
5. House Plant Enamel Pin
This beautiful Alocasia enamel pin allows you to carry a token leafy friend around with you wherever you go! Mica Peet is a small business based in Southsea run by Mica who draws all the original illustrations behind her jewellery and fashion accessories. Click here to shop her beautiful range!
6. House PLant Scratch Poster
This house plant wish list scratch poster would be perfect for your house plant loving friend who really wants to collect them all! Created by Zahra of Big Fat Plant Blog, this A2 poster features 48 different house plants that you can scratch off to reveal the illustrations behind. This is such a great idea and I would totally buy one if I had the wall space! Click here to shop the poster!
7. house plant care set
Patch have put together this practical and stylish house plant care set which includes two printed leaf dust cloths (very similar to tea towels!), an amber glass mister with a silicon base to protect your surfaces and a pair of high quality secateurs for keeping your plants in order. The products are also available individually, however I think this is the sort of thing I would love to receive as a set, but wouldn’t justify buying for myself and that’s the point of a present right?
8. house plants!
This wondrous beauty of a shop is Forest in Deptford, they have another shop in East Dulwich too and luckily for those who aren’t local, they also have an online shop. This shop is THE DREAM, the ultimate house plant jungle with beautiful accessories and homeware too. The team are also really knowledgeable so it’s a perfect place to buy house plants, especially if you’re not sure what might work best for your space or which plant to choose. Buying a house plant could be seen as a bit risky if you don’t know the person that well, but as a house plant lover I can tell you I would be delighted to receive any and every house plant whether I had one already or not! Click here to head to Forest’s online shop.
Bonus gift idea - propogation stand
So I was hoping to include a propagation stand or propagation station, but I couldn’t find one I liked from a small business in the UK. However since writing the rest of the blog I have found this little beauty from This Green Space on Etsy which is a beautiful handmade jesmonite stand and comes with the six glass test tubes and cork stoppers. Based in London An also sells some little bowl shaped individual propagation vases with tiny little legs which would also make a lovely gift. Again you don’t need a beautiful propagation stand to propagate your house plants, you can use anything from a glass jar or bottle to your favourite mug (although I wouldn’t recommend that as you’ll be waiting a while again before you can drink from it!). However that makes this the perfect gift as it’s something that you wouldn’t necessarily buy yourself! I also love that this is quite compact, at the moment I have a collection of class bottles dotted around with cuttings in water waiting to root, keeping them all in one place like this would be perfect… in fact I think I’m going to go and treat myself to one of these right now! Click here to shop.
I hope you’ve found that helpful and I would love to hear from you if you have any other suggestions or ideas, you can comment below or get in touch here. I am planning a few different gift guides this year, so do also get in touch if there is anything you would like to see or if you have found any wonderful gifts or small businesses you think I could feature!
